Modern identification

Chestnut-headed Bee-eater

Merops leschenaulti

  • Certain
  • Checked against the engraved caption
  • Bee-eaters · Meropidae

Why

Gould's Merops quinticolor, whose synonymy takes in Vieillot's leschenaulti and whose range is India, Ceylon and Java, = Merops leschenaulti, Chestnut-headed Bee-eater; quinticolor is now the Javan race, but Gould's bird is the whole species, so no form.
