Why

Gould's own Garrulax ruficeps, figured from Swinhoe's Formosa pair with a bright rufous crown and white throat, is the Rufous-crowned Laughingthrush, Pterorhinus ruficeps. eBird 2025 treats it as a species apart from the White-throated Laughingthrush.
