Why
Baudin's or Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo? The length of the upper mandible decides: Baudin's is long, narrow and projects well past the lower, Carnaby's is short and broad. The figure's head is turned and the bill foreshortened. Gould's name is Lear's baudinii, but his Swan River birds 'mainly subsist' on Banksia, shown on the plate, which is Carnaby's food.
