Why

Eastern or Moseley's Rockhopper? Gunn's single bird washed up on the north coast of Tasmania. Crest length and the bare gape would decide: Moseley's has long, dense plumes, Eastern a narrower brow and conspicuous pink gape skin. The plate shows moderate plumes and no gape skin. Gould names Amsterdam, St Paul and Tristan (Moseley's), from Latham, not from his bird. Western Rockhopper (South America) is the unlikely one.
