Surnia ulula

  • Certain
  • Checked against the engraved caption
  • Owls · Strigidae

Why

Surnia funerea = Northern Hawk Owl, Surnia ulula. Linnaeus's Strix funerea now names Tengmalm's (Boreal) Owl, Aegolius funereus, but Gould's bird is the long-tailed, barred Hawk Owl.
