Why

Gould's text and figure are the British Rock Pipit: a coastal, resident, dusky olive bird with heavy dark blotches below, on a shore rock. He notes that the continental birds' vinous breast (the Water Pipit) is missing in British examples. Dresser cites the plate under Anthus obscurus. Bechstein's aquaticus is the Water Pipit's name.
