Why

Pallas's lugubris is the Black-backed Wagtail, now Motacilla alba lugens: Gould's figures have a black eye-stripe, mostly white wings and, in summer, a black back, he gives Japan among its haunts, and Sharpe lists the plate under M. lugens.
