Why

The figures are Chestnut-eared Buntings: chestnut ear-coverts, a grey streaked crown and a streaked black necklace on a white throat. Gould had his birds from China, and Temminck from Japan. Sharpe (Cat. Birds BM xii) puts the plate and Gmelin's lesbia in E. fucata.
