Why

Gould drew the plate from Captain S. E. Cook's specimen from near Madrid, so it is the Iberian Magpie, which Bonaparte later named cooki after him. The central tail feathers have only an obscure pale tip, not the Asian bird's broad white one; Sharpe and Dresser cite the plate under C. cooki.
