Why

Audubon's “Townsend's Cormorant” (Phalacrocorax townsendi, the male) is a young Brandt's Cormorant, which he described as a new species from Townsend's two Cape Disappointment skins.

Why

Audubon's “Violet-green Cormorant” (Phalacrocorax resplendens, a female in winter) is the southern race of today's Pelagic Cormorant, U. p. resplendens, named from Townsend's Cape Disappointment bird.
