Audubon's “Mexican Goldfinch” (Carduelis mexicanus, figs. 4–5), drawn from a pair of skins Swainson lent him, is the black-backed form of today's Lesser Goldfinch, figured as its own species; the green-backed Arkansaw Siskin is plate 400 fig. 1.
