Why

Gould's Cinclus sordidus (Tso Moriri, Ladakh) is the dark sordidus morph of the White-throated Dipper's Himalayan race cashmeriensis: the plate and text give a paler brown throat-and-breast bib on a blackish-brown bird, which the uniform Brown Dipper lacks.
