Why

Puffinus major Faber = Ardenna gravis, Great Shearwater; the plate's dark cap, white half-collar and black bill are the Great's. Gould's range (Biscay, the Mediterranean, Madeira) mixes in Cory's Shearwater, but the bird figured is not one.
