Why

Temminck's stapazina is the black-throated morph of the western bird; Dresser cites the plate under his S. rufa (western black-throated). The male's black bib is small and well clear of the wings and the forehead is pale, not the large bib and black-fronted mask of the eastern melanoleuca. Gould's range (S Italy, Dalmatia, Greece) is Temminck's, not the specimens'.
